Over 12,000 adult trees at 2318 Greenwood Rd and approximately 4,000 adult trees at the Mundelein Orchard.
What types and varieties of apples does SunBerry Orchards produce? Does apple size matter?
We produce over 100 varieties, including Honeycrisp, Ambrosia, EverCrisp, CrimsonCrisp, Rosalee, and many more. Apple size can vary by variety but all are equally delicious and nutritious.
What growing conditions are best for apple trees?
Well-drained soil, full sun exposure, and adequate water supply.
How long does it take for an apple tree to reach maturity and produce its first fruits?
5-7 years to produce the most fruit.
Do you use organic fertilizer, soil amendments, and/or mulch? Why/why not?
Yes, we use mulch and chicken manure to fertilize fields and enhance soil health.
Do you manage the amount of apples trees produce? Why/why not? Why is this important?
Yes, we thin the apples to ensure optimal size and quality.
Do you provide supplemental watering or rely on Mother Nature only? If the former, how often do you water, how much do you apply, and how do you do it (e.g., base of the tree, hand water, machine water, irrigation)?

U-Pick & Farm Adventures
When is U-Pick season?
The U-Pick season varies depending on the crop. We typically offer U-Pick strawberries in June, followed by blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and peaches in July and August, and apples from September through November. Check our website or social media pages for updates on crop availability and U-Pick hours.
What should I bring for U-Pick?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for outdoor activities. Sunscreen, hats, and water bottles are also recommended, especially on hot days. We provide picking containers and bags.
Are pets allowed at the farm?
No, for the safety of our animals and customers, pets are not allowed on the farm.
What is there to do at the farm beside U-Pick?
Our farm offers a range of agri-tainment and farm adventures, including a petting zoo, children’s playground, horse and pony rides, farm games, and a food truck and picnic area.
Do you offer group tours or events?
